OH MY GOD, this person is so selfless that they are giving up coffee until they are able to shove their beliefs down the throat of every woman in this country. You know, I was thinking about how I could not afford to have a baby and how it would completely derail my life but hey, this girl ISN’T drinking COFFEE. MAN, what a sacrifice. I’m having second thoughts about this whole abortion thing now.

Honestly this is fine with me. MORE COFFEE FOR MEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow. Just, wow.

This is adjusted for inflation. I don’t think our education system is about education anymore.

Nope. It isn’t.

What is your favorite fictional character (or historical figure) of all time?

Mine is a tie between Gene Wilder’s Willy Wonka and the Iron Giant.

Willy Wonka, all the way.

Texas approves controversial license plate featuring crosses

“Texas is getting a reputation for being unwelcoming to all faiths. The decision by the DMV simply reemphasizes that problem,” Kathy Miller, president of the liberal Texas Freedom Network, an Austin-based watchdog group, told The Times. “This is the danger of government playing favorites with faith: It can lead to folks having their faith questioned or diminished by government bodies, and that’s wrong.”
Miller, whose group released a statement opposing the plates, called on the DMV board to reconsider its decision, and on the state Legislature to clarify what plate designs are permissible.
“This isn’t a question of free speech; this is a question of government endorsing particular symbols, in this case religious symbols, in a way that diminishes religious freedom,” Miller said.

Just like the godbag plates my good ole state, Indiana, has.

They’re really only ‘entitlements’ when they’re something other people want. When it’s something you want, they’re a a hallmark of a civilized society, the foundation of a great people. ‘I just had a baby, and found out that maternity leave strengthens society, but since I still have a job, unemployment benefits are clearly socialism.

Jon Stewart, on Fox News’ Megyn Kelly and her strangely not conservative crusade for paid maternity leave

Anti-“government handouts” until they apply to you, Fox News style. From Jezebel’s article Megyn Kelly Bravely Stands up for Megyn Kelly’s Rights

While Kelly’s pro-maternity leave stance might seem encouraging, and a prominent woman conservative woman advocating any sort of social program refreshing, it’s not brave or envelope pushing to advocate policies that would be immensely beneficial to yourself. As Jon Stewart pointed out, Kelly isn’t so progressive when it comes to other social programs that would immensely help other populations, as that would be “government intrusion.” Megyn Kelly is about as Girl Power as Sarah Palin or Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

I remember when this happened. And it’s representative of the “do as I say, not as I do” mentality that a lot of conservatives (particularly fiscal conservatives) hang on to. See also: Rick Santorum’s wife’s abortion,* Ayn Rand collecting social security and Medicare, and Newt Gingrich suddenly being the authority on marriage and family values.

*And in case you’ve never read it, the timeless “The Only Moral Abortion is My Abortion.”

Interesting. “The only moral abortion is my abortion.”

Interesting discussion regarding Web accessibility and, particularly, GIFs. Word to us coders.
